Calculator Agents and Distributors in Australia

The tables following list most of the calculator agents and distributors who were active in Australia from the late 1800s to the 1970s.

Some manufacturers appointed "sole agents" who sold directly to end users, while others appointed "distributors" who sold to many different retailers. Some agents (eg Peacock Bros.) maintained a stable presence for over 80 years, while other company names, addresses, and agencies changed frequently.

Some manufacturers sold initially through agents before establishing their own presence here with a subsidiary company.

Many well-known European manufacturers never attempted to sell commercially in Australia, although individual machines occasionally found their way here by other means.
